Your Dating Photo Upload Guide

So you want your dating photo upload to your internet dating service, and you don't know how? I've created a simple and brief article for those of you who aren't keen on the technical-side of things and on the whole "photo upload" thing. Read on!

You start of with a digital image (your dating photo) from a disc, a scan, or a photo emailed to you by a friend.

You need to download the photos you want onto your computer.

* If the images are on a disc, put the disc in your computer, just like a CD or DVD. This usually automatically starts up software on your computer that allows you to view the pictures on the disc. If nothing happens, open “My Computer” and click on the picture of the Disc. It opens it and then you should see all the files on the disc. Take the photos you want, mark them, and drag them to the Desktop.

You then want to choose a photo-editing program and edit the photos.

* Pick the image you want to use as your primary photo upload (your primary dating photo is the one you see in searches or when you first click on a profile) and double-click on it so that it opens in a picture-editing program like Microsoft Photo Editor, Photoshop, etc. (if it doesn't open in a photo-editing program, right click on it and choose "Open with" - and then choose a photo-editing program from the list). Your primary photo you choose should show just your face, from the bottom of your neck to just above the top of your head.

* Look for the edit section on the menu bar, something that has to do with “Image Size” and compress the picture to a "web page" size. If the photo is horizontal, the width should be no larger than about 600 pixels. If the photo is vertical, the width should be no larger than 400 pixels. This may change of course with every online dating service; there are online dating services that give you the size of picture they recommend or make you upload.

Don't forget where your photos are in the first place and where you save them after editing them.

* Make a note of the image file name and where the image is stored on your computer.

* If your dating photos are on a disc, it, too, has a name and your disc drive usually has a letter associated with it. The name and location might look something like "E:\PS12345.jpg." The .jpg extension on the file name stands for one type of photo format you can use. The other formats are ".jpeg”/”.jpg”, ".png," "tiff," ".bmp," and ".gif." save in one of these formats although it's best to safe the photo in the “.jpeg”/”.jpg” and “.gif” formats since they are compressed and are best for web-use.

"I've selected and saved my dating photos on my computer, now what?"

It's photo upload time! There are few ways to submit your dating photo. Most of the online dating services will provide you with all these options:

1. Direct Photo Upload.

The fastest way to get your photos posted is uploading them from your computer to the net.

Here are the general instructions on how to deal with dating photo upload (it changes from one dating service to another but the basic idea is the same)

  1. Sign into your chosen online dating service. Go to the homepage and click on "Edit Profile" or "submit profile" etc. This takes you to the profile-editing page. Look for the "Photos" tab and click.

  2. On the photos page, click on "Add/edit photo","upload my photo", "add my photo" or "photo upload".

  3. Under one of these headings click on "Upload new" Or "upload my main/primary photo"

  4. This takes you to "Add Photos to My Profile." Use the Browse button to navigate to the place on your computer where you have stored the image you want to use as your primary (first, main) photo upload. When you find the image file, click on it, and then click on "Open." Your dating site takes over and uploads the file.

  5. Follow the same steps to upload additional photos. There should be a place saying "Add more photos" or "Photo Upload - More photos". Browse to the image location, click on the image file, then click on "Open."

  6. As you add photos, include captions that explain what's going on in the photos.

If you're having problems with photo upload there are other ways:

2. Send scanned photos as an email attachment.

Use this method if Direct Photo Upload does not work for you. Email photos to your website photo service. Be sure to include your member number, username and registered email address.

3. Send photos by regular mail.

The last resort. Use only if you weren't successful using the first two options (this will take longer than photo upload via computer, since it's via mail). Be sure to include your member number, username and registered email address with each of your photos.

Once you've done your dating photo upload don't forget about your profile itself. Is your profile written well enough? Have you got an original and catchy headline and username? Take a look at these free articles that give you lots of great online dating information!
