"The moment I changed my headline on my online dating profile, guys started contacing me!"
Your online dating profile headline is very important! A creative and catchy headline is bait to get those men *clickin*.
Most profiles require that you provide a short header message (opening line) that shows up under your username when people do searches (this is called your profile headline).
Think about your header as an advertisement you're writing for yourself. Make sure the description is attractive, without being misleading. A gentle, good-natured tease will do well.
I've put together some online dating profile pointers to help you choose a catchy headline.
Provide a lead-in to info that will let men know more about you in just a few words. Skater Girl…, Green-Eyed…, Beach Gal…, Mexican Lover…, Artistic Painter seeks…, Seeking a Christian Connection…, Surfer Girly…, etc. can all be ways to start your headline. They all give a lead-in as to who you are and what you’re interested in.
Some of the best online datiing profile headlines grab the users attention by asking them a question. It should be relevant to your online dating profile but the more obscure the better. When people are sifting through profiles, they often get drawn in to a particular online dating profile because of a question and can’t resist answering it (particularly if it’s quite literal).
Try not to be too serious, like asking “When are we getting married?”, “Are you the one?”, or "I Need a Soulmate", which could sound a bit desperate. Try asking something Light like “I’m a Keeper, are you?”, “Wanna Have Some Fun?”, “What Are You Waiting For?”, or even “Do You Deserve Me?”
You can also give hints as to what your interested in, like “Tennis, Anyone?”
The question can also be a continuation of your online dating profile username. For example: if you have a username that has to do with a character from a fairy tale (like Cinderella or Snow White), your question could be “Where’s my prince?”
Just doing your online dating profile research will show you how many people write things like ‘Looking for Mr. Right’ or ‘I might be the one you’re looking for’, ‘I don’t know what to write’!, or 'Look at Me". Think about what an overused headline is going to tell someone about you except maybe that you have a limited imagination?
If there is a particular character you admire then you could use the ‘X seeks Y’ format (but give it a bit of a personal twist or you run the risk of falling into the cliché trap). Ex: ‘A New York Juliet looking for her Romeo’ says more than ‘Girl seeking her guy’.
If you have a pet Dalmatian and are looking for a dog-lover guy, then you could use it in your profile header. Ex: ‘Charming Dalmatian owner seeks lover for mutual dog admiration’
...without using a list of adjectives!
Often our friends see the true us that we may try to shy away from or be too modest to see. Ask a few friends to help you out and describe you in a sentence or two.
This can also give some info for songs, books, movies, and interests you have.
I’m A Robert Deniro fan, “You Talkin’ To Me?” was one of my favorite quotes from Taxi Driver. I also always liked Cindi Lauper and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!!” ;-)
It's vital that you take your time to create an appealing, light, clever or funny online dating profile headline that will make men want to click on your profile and read it.
There are several elements that go into creating an online dating profile that people will want to click to read. One is your photo, another is your username, and then there's your header.
