Dear Coach Mili, I’ve been in an LDR for a year already; and well, once in a while it can get a bit monotonous. All the talking and talking and non-stop talking… I mean, that's all you really have right? To change things up we'll sometimes watch a movie together (playing it at the same time) or play a yahoo game together. Do you have any more ideas besides these? I'm running out of long distance relationship ideas! |

heart takes us to a far away journey… And yes, we have all read
those childhood stories about the prince who goes on a journey across
the world to find his queen right? But what happens when this romantic
story turns out to be our own reality? What should we do if thousands
of miles separate between us and our lover? How do we keep the passion
alive?
Being in a long distance relationship means you have to be a tad more creative in order to keep your love alive. Intimacy is a key survival in any relationship, and so LDR’s need to creatively find ways to be intimate without physically being with one another.

Play Games With Eachother
There are lots of cool online games you can play together. Here are a few links to multiplayer online games:

- InteracTrivia - It's an interactive trivia game where you can show your knowledge in realtime with people around the world. It's hasn't got a feature of privacy but it can be great fun
- Miniclip – Has lots of original multiplayer games.
- ISketch – Join other people from around the world to play a fun game of online sketching! The object of the game is simple. Each player gets a chance to draw a word, which the other players try to guess.
You can also try out and play a real game (for example playing chess together). Each of you can sit with a chessboard in front of you (all the chess pieces set in place), then make a move and tell your partner (they will make your move on their chess board and vice-versa). You can be on the phone together at the same time (a headset will come in handy!) or even go further and use a webcam! It can be any kind of game (monopoly, backgammon, checkers, battleship, etc.).

and sharing your thoughts about it can be a starter to lots of

reading and read it simultaneously (start with a few pages per day).

Bedtime Stories
When we love someone, we usually want to hear and talk to them the first thing in the morning and the last thing before going to sleep. This is a nice way to go to sleep with your lover. Take turns telling each other a made-up fairy tale or a written one. You can take turns reading or tape yourself speaking into a microphone and send it via snail mail or as an audio file for your loved one to listen to at their leisure.
A nice book to check out is “Chicken Soup For The Couple’s Soul”; the paperback is something like 10 bucks and the stories are really great for couples! It can really help you feel connected as well as start a discussion on the topics that come up from the stories.

Send Pictures To Each Other Daily
It’s always fun to get pictures! When it’s on a daily basis, it’s even more exciting. You can take a picture of yourself every day doing different things, at different places, etc. You can take these pictures with your cell phone and send them, or via e-mail, or you can open an account with a Photo-sharing website and add the pics there. Sleep Together
You can pick an evening to “sleep together”. This is most possible when you have weekend minutes or timeframes when the phone call doesn’t cost you hardly anything (or use a cheap phone card). It’s quite easy to do, just cuddle up in bed, in your pajamas, under the covers, while you’re on the phone with your love partner. Don’t hang up until you both fall asleep.
You don’t have to talk the whole time, once you get into that sleepy mood, you can say the last goodnight words and fall into a deep sleep in your ‘partner’s arms’. It’s nice to use the speakerphone option so that you don’t have to put the phone to your ear the whole time. This can get addictive :-)!
If you both have laptops and a webcam, you can also put the laptop on a table close to you and turn on the webcam. That way you can see eachother sleeping, even when you wake up in the morning! This is probably as close as you can get (and you won’t be stealing eachother’s blanket ;-).
